Do you reflect on your actions?

The difference with self-reflection is that it allows us to change within before trying to change the world.

It plays a crucial role in our lives, and there is a vast difference when we practise it.

An individual who reflects on their actions can become calmer, a better listener, more respectful, understanding and supportive.

However, without self-reflection, we can become the opposite—angry, using mean words towards others, not listening to anyone and hardly being supportive.

I leave it to you to decide whom you want to be.

But remember, people see us as an example of how they want to be. Choose what kind of example you want to set for those younger than you.

A friend of mine who works in aged care gave me a few examples. From listening to her words, I came to a conclusion that it does make a big impact on younger people.

She was worried that she might become like the person she described as a bad example. She was worried that she might yell, shout and use swear words towards the very people who are helping her—people who are gentle and listen to her. She was worried that she might affect everyone around her at that age.

She also mentioned that she wants to be like another elderly woman who is very dearly loved, cute, and speaks softly. She doesn’t yell and even teaches the younger ones.

This is an example of how we can become either of them if we don’t change our minds and our behaviour now.

And it can only happen if we start looking back at our actions throughout the day, especially at night, and ask ourselves:

What could I have done differently today?

Because the person we become tomorrow starts with the person we choose to be today.
